Monster Stories for Kids: The Muffler Monster

Monster Stories for Kids : Muffler Monster

Were you missing my monster stories for kids? This week I will not write a serious post. Instead, I will try to bring back to the blog a bit of humour with another of my monster stories for kids. As some of you already know, the stories I write have been inspired by annoying and intrusive thoughts that sometimes assail my 10-year-old son. A few weeks back, he went through a phase in which he would often say “I hate not hearing”. Victor does not have any hearing problems. My best guess is that at times he would miss on a piece of information due to high background noise (t.v. playing in the background, adults conversation going on). As he had already gotten used to my storytelling, it did not take long before he asked me to create a story for him about “not hearing.” This is how the Muffler Monster was born.

I will keep this introduction short and jump into today’s story. For those of you who are new to this blog, I will add at the end of this post a brief explanation about our tales. Let me introduce you to the Muffler Monster.

Transcript:

Peace seems to elude Victor and Emma. The Ugly-Thought Monsters from the Imaginary World remain determined to sneak into the Real World. Is there further trouble looming?

Victor and Emma are sitting in the living room watching T.V.

“Emma I’m watching my favorite series! Why did you turn down the volume?- complains Victor.

Emma answers: What are you talking about? Look, I didn’t even touch the remote.

Victor says:“My super sixth sense is in red alert mode. I think I know what’s going on. The Muffler Monster has got inside the house”

Victor explains: “The Muffler Monster is a naughty prankster. His favorite prank is to muffle all noise is around you so that you can’t hear. I’m not sure what we will do about it.  The Muffler Monster is invisible! Emma, I can’t hear anything! The Muffler Monster must be pretty close to me.

Emma smiles and says: “I think I’ve come up with something that may work. We can’t see an invisible monster, but what about a green one? Emma shows a green paint can and says: “Victor cover your eyes! I’m going to spray you!”

Victor, who can’t hear what she says shouts: “What are you doing? Why are you spraying me with paint?

Emma says: “I can see it now. It’s poking its fingers in your ears! There is an easy foolproof way to detach sticky monsters. Tickle attack!”

Emma is sticking the monster while Victor grabs a big box.

“Ha, ha, let me go, please! I can’t take tickles any longer”- squeals the Muffler Monster.

“Why don’t you hide in the box?”-  suggests Victor.

They close the box and then the monster realizes it’s trapped.

“Oh no, it was a trick! Let me out!” begs the monster from inside the box.

“Not a chance”- laugh Emma and Victor

A bit of our own story for those new to the blog

In January of 2017, we left Spain and moved to New Zealand with our two children. Our oldest son has special needs. The big changes in his life (country, language, home, school, friends ) have been hard to digest. We often see ourselves fighting intrusive thoughts of sadness, frustration and anger.  One of the many tools we have used in these tough times has been storytelling. In the stories I craft for him, we take these thoughts that annoy him (abstract entities) and we turn them into monsters (tangible things that a kid understands) and outwit them.  You can read a bit more about us here.

And if you still have not read the rest of our monster stories for kids, let me introduce you to:

-The Confusion Monster

-The Forgetting Monster

-The Breaking Monster

I hope you enjoy them (or rather I hope your kids enjoy reading or listening to them!)

See you soon!
